A Federal judge has threatened to temporarily block Carnival (Carnival, Princess and Holland America) from docking in the United States.

In 2017 Carnival began a five year probation as part of a $40 million settlement for dumping oil from Princess cruise ships into the ocean and trying to cover it up. This week Carnival has been accused of breaking the probation and using it’s status and position in the industry to change the terms of the settlement.

Official Statement from Carnival Corp.

“Our environmental responsibility has been and continues to be a top priority for the company. Our aspiration is to leave the places we touch even better than when we first arrived. This is in the best interest of our guests, our company and the oceans upon which we travel. It appears there are some misunderstandings about our commitment to the plan in place that the company is following and we intend to fully address the issues raised at Wednesday’s court conference.”

A hearing is scheduled for June 2019 to determine whether or not these accusations are true and if so, what the penalty will be. As of now there no itinerary or schedule changes on Carnival, Princess and Holland America ships.
