What To Do In Nassau Bahamas

The Bahamas is a great, under-rated option for a quick getaway. The climate is ideal, locals are incredibly friendly and helpful, and there are a lot of hidden gems to explore. Best of all, the islands are close to the southern US which make for short flights from anywhere on the east coast and a lot of southern states and an idea stop for cruises. Read on for suggestions of what to do in Nassau.

If you love relaxing on beautiful beaches and swimming in beautiful blue ocean waters, put Rose Island on your short list of beaches you want to enjoy. Home to a coral reef and a lone beach bar, this beautiful privately owned beach is the perfect place for snorkeling and sunbathing. Visit Rose Island

If, like me, you’re interested in historical sites, Nassau is home to Fort Charlotte and For Fincastle which should automatically go on your “what to do in Nassau” list. For Charlotte is the largest fort in Nassau and has underground passages, remote dungeons, and canons that were never fired in battle — because it was built for a battle that never took place! Fort Fincastle, which was built in 1793, is positioned at the top of Bennett’s Hill. Its location was selected as the best place to protect the island of New Providence from outside invaders. Tour the Forts (and a lot more)

If you love water parks Atlantis is the perfect place to stay (or just play!) in the Bahamas. Aquaventure water park is perfect for a day trip! You’ll find kid-friendly to heart pounding water slides, lazy rivers and dozens of pools and play areas. If you’re not staying at the Atlantis Paradise Island Resort, you’ll take a water taxi to the island and will need a day pass to take advantage of the water park.

Interested in exploring local culture? Rent scooters, grab a local map, and  make your way to the Straw Market, where you can buy beautiful souvenirs and support the traditional craft of straw working.

While you’re on those scooters (or walking, or taking a taxi) there are other great things to do in Nassau including visiting the Government House, National Art Gallery, and Parliament Square. Many of the tours available on the island will take you to these local attractions and it’ll be up to you whether you want to see them on a self guided tour, with a group and a tour guide, or choose a more exciting option. Among the more exciting options are ATV, Jeep, or Segway tours.

You can easily find more information about Nassau and Paradise Island, including more attractions, by visiting the official website at nassauparadiseisland.com.

Whatever you choose to do in Nassau (or if you choose to do nothing at all!) you’ll have a great time, experience great food (and rum!), and find yourself becoming immersed in “island culture” from the moment you step onto the island. Nassau is a destination that never disappoints!
